JJLEM delivers China's largest oleochemical complex

JJ-Lurgi Engineering in Malaysia (JJLEM) delivered the largest oleochemical complex to Kerry Oleochemicals Industrial in Shanghai earlier this year.

The new complex in Shanghai's Pudong district will be the most advanced fat splitting glycerine and fatty acid facility in China. It is also the largest in capacity for a single location with an estimated output of 120,000 tons per year.

JJLEM's team of engineers started working on the project in Aug 2003 and took only one and a half years to complete the complex, a commendable feat by industry standards.

An oleochemical complex is different from a plant. JJLEM Process Engineer Lim Pei Ching explains that this complex in particular consists of six plants for fat splitting, glycerine water pre-treatment, glycerine water evaporation, glycerine distillation and bleaching, fatty acid distillation, and fatty acid hydrogenation.

The complex is part of the Shanghai Gaodong Project by Kerry Oils and Grains (China) where JJLEM has also delivered the hydrogenation and refinery (edible oil) plant earlier.

Kerry Oils and Grains (China) is part of the Kerry Group owned by the international Kuok Group. For more than 30 years, JJ-Lurgi Engineering has been the preferred partner in supplying a series of plants for the Group. This is the first oleochemical complex for the Kerry Group.- By Stephanie Cheong, JJSEA
